Although they haven’t set it as an official objective, it seems Microsoft have set an unofficial target of achieving a sub 15 seconds boot time with Windows 7. On the Windows 7 Engineering blog Michael Fortin stats that:
In the lab, a very good system is one that boots in under 15 seconds.

The fastest I’ve ever managed to get a Windows system to boot is just over a minute, so I’d be amazed if Microsoft do achieve a sub 15 second boot time for Windows 7. I don’t think they will be able to do this alone and will probably need hardware and software manufacturers to play ball.
Do you think it’s achievable?

Yea I got a good feeling they can do it. granted I am not always pro microsoft but I think within the time it releases and as they improve the code, they can make it happen. Just so long as they think outside the box and do something different. And to not just create something thats new and inovative that hasn’t had some test time. I think if they would have held off on the release of vista, they could have saved a ton of trouble but I guess spending more money on testing is less cost effective as producing a crapy product that has such a bad rep you have to create a marketing campain to make it appear that its a misconseption. As you can tell I have no faith in Vista. Its the WIndows ME of 2008. Its time to give it a grave stone. Call me crazy but XP and 2000 work far better then I have ever seen vista run no matter what the hardware was. Maybe I am crazy.
Well i have intel extreme MB with 2xQuad core Xeons with 8gb server memory and 4X500GB SATAs and yet i cant do it. use Vista 64 bit business. if they do get it right happy for them but still iets a dream..
I have a Intel Xtreme mb with 2Xquad core Xeon cpus en 8gb server memory.4X500GB sata drives and yet i dont get that speedy boot-up. uses Vist 64bit business. dream on if they do it congrat to them!!
I had nothing near your computer and Windows 7 already managed a 13 second boot.
My W7 boots in 10 seconds – from an OCZ Vertex SSD.
My Win7 64 Ultimate boots in 19.5 with all services and startup items (even for programs I’ve installed afterwards – and I haven’t even tuned it yet to speed up the boot process. Of course I am running with an Intel X-25M 160GB G2 SSD and i920 @ 3.8GHz
at 12GB of 1600GHz DDR3 I expect with tuning I can get it down to 8-10 seconds.
