Mike Swanson, Microsoft Tech Evangelist, commented a few days ago on our site mentioning a theme pack that he did create for Windows 7. Theme packs are basically cab files that contain various files of the theme including wallpapers and sounds. The theme pack created by Mike contains a selection of 20 of his nature themed wallpaper images. All wallpaper images come in a resolution of 1920×1200 which means they should be suitable for most computer systems out there.
Installation of the theme pack could not be easier. All that needs to be done is to double-click the Mike Swanson Macros.themepack file in Windows 7 to add it to the computer system.
Creating the theme pack has been some sort of test more than anything else as it is also possible to simply download the wallpaper images directly from Mike’s website as well. The collection there is actually larger than the one supplied in the theme pack. The download of the theme pack that includes the 20 nature wallpapers has a size of about 9 Megabytes.
Users of other operating systems can download the Windows 7 theme pack as well as it is possible to unpack it to their computer system if an unpacker is available that supports the extraction of cab files. I do like the fact that all the different theme packs are being made available and it’s certainly making Windows 7 seem like an easier OS to customise than previous ones – maybe I’ll be able to retire the automatic wallpaper changer I’ve got for Vista!
