Just to show how quickly the world of Windows moves, since I published my 10 top tips before phoning a friend article only two days ago, Microsoft have since launched yet another way to get help and support. Microsoft Answers.
The initial impression is excellent, with support categorised by operating system and category. Do you want support for Gaming on Windows Vista for instance.
All the help topics are also searchable, as you’d expect. The problem though is that the website then drops you down into a standard forum which is disappointing. I say this not because forums are bad, they’re something that most people will be familiar using. It’s that Microsoft have done such a better job with the Fix It website which is more consistently formatted throughout and also provides helpful fix buttons that will automatically run hotfixes and patches.
The initial impression of this site however is that it’s a friendly and accessible and it’s another way for non-technical people to help themselves. That can only be a good thing.
