On Tuesday Microsoft released a total of 13 bulletins and 34 vulnerabilities, as well as the first critical update for Windows 7. The update is to patch Internet Explorer 8 which ships with Windows 7 , in which Microsoft warned that there were 3 crucial vulnerabilities.
This update addresses three privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed vulnerability. The security update addresses these vulnerabilities by modifying the way that Internet Explorer processes data stream headers, validates arguments, and handles objects in memory
These security holes could allow a hacker to gain access and take over vulnerable computers by tricking users into visiting a malicious webpage. These security holes are in Internet Explorer 5,6,7 aswell as in IE8, there is also one security flaw in Silver light. Microsoft have released a patch package through Windows Update and users with automatic updates turned on, will have the patches delivered automatically.
Microsoft has rated this update as critical and recommends all users update immediately.
This security update is rated Critical for all supported releases of Internet Explorer: Internet Explorer 5.01, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Internet Explorer 7, and Internet Explorer 8.
Among the Windows 7 updates, Microsoft released patches for the Windows GDI ( Graphics Device Interface ) which could allow an attacker to take control of the users PC, if they viewed an image file using affected software or browsed a malicious web site.
There was also a patch for Windows Media Runtime. A vulnerability was found that could be exploited if the user opened a malicious media file or were streaming malicious content from the web. There was also an exploit if a specially crafted ASF ( Advanced Systems Format ) file was opened in Windows Media Player 6.4.

I had to restore my laptop Win 7 after the update. It caused at least 2 issues: In Live Mail compose it crashed when I typed the first letter of the email address and I could not login at web sites using IE8.
14th October 2010 my computer was updated by windows critical update and it closed my internet connection and I cannot no inernet acitivities possible.
Very same thing happened today (15th October 20101).
My My Norton Vorous protection software was turned off.
I could do nothing but restore the computer to the prevous state.
Is there any issue in this upgrade?
