Need to promote Windows 7? Lucky there’s a Family Guy!

Is it an infomercial?  Is it a comedy?  Nah, who cares.  Microsoft have teamed up with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane for a one-off comedy to be shown in the US on November 8th at 8:30pm (ET and PT) [Does PT stand for Peter Griffin time?]

Details on the show are sketchy, get it?  Sketch… ah forget it!  The show will star MacFarlane, voice of just about everybody on the show, and Alex Borstein, who voices the long-suffering Lois Griffin.

In a statement, Microsoft and Fox said they want to “bring the old Texaco Star theatre-style sponsorships into the 21st Century”, presumably by getting viewers to try multi-touch on their TVs and then laughing at them when they can’t watch Dancing with the Stars until they’ve wiped the peanut butter off.

“While the way people watch TV has evolved, their desire to be entertained, and marketers’ need to deliver compelling content, hasn’t changed,” the companies said. “Microsoft and Fox are joining forces to showcase how the power and simplicity of Windows 7 can enhance the content Fox viewers enjoy most, whether it’s comedy, drama, sports, or reality programming on TV or on the Web.”

It will be interesting to see if Stewie Griffin tries to harness the power of Windows 7 to take over the world.  Microsoft are also apparently going to do some other thing with college students, but what the hell I’m bored now.

Giggedy.

Simpsons WERE good in the 80´s .Now they sure suck

Most likely because you can only associate with the pop culture of the 80s. It’s not very often that somebody that understands the pop culture of the date on which any given episode aired–assuming they even acknowledge that the shows humor thrives on pop culture–would dislike The Simpsons. The same goes for Family Guy really. Both of them employ hyper-irony, but I guess Family Guy is far more extreme in undercutting the messages it sends. But hey, to each his own, I suppose.

It´s a matter of stories. In the 80´s the plots were more elaborated than they are now. Now it seems they are more interested in get special guest stars than in the plot.
I think family guy is more refreshing
