Enter God Mode!

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but contrary to what the title suggests, you wont gain power over the whole world. But what this ” God Mode ” does allow you to do is change every setting and administrative option in Windows 7.

So at least you get “Godly” powers over your Windows 7 machine. But lets be honest with ourselves, it’s not really a mode and isn’t the hardest trick in the book to pull off.

All you have to do is the following:

  1. Create a new folder on your desktop or anywhere ( right click on a blank space – new folder )
  2. Then rename it to the following ”  GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}  ”

The folder icon will then automatically change itself to the control panel icon and there you have it!

God Mode1 Enter God Mode! All you have to do is double click the God Mode shortcut and you can edit every Windows 7 settings that you can imagine all through a GUI. Everything from the Action Center, Back Up plans, Desktop Gadgets and Power Options are all available here.

I guess it’s handy if your looking to change a lot of settings at once?

Apparently it works with Windows Vista as well

Is this a security hole ? I mean, can a standard user set or get administrative privileges using this method?

No, they cannot. Someone simply discovered the GUID of the folder that is searched through when you put search terms into the start menu, and as a standard user most of these applets would still require the administrator password to be entered for them to function.

This is not a new idea. You can find this folder yourself by simply searching for ANYTHING in the start menu (take “aero” as an example), and then shift-right click on any option and click “open file location”. All the GUID does is allow you to make a permanent location for this folder in any location you like.

‘Apparently it works with Vista as well’ – apparently not with the 64bit version – it kills Explorer quite handily

That is true, but I’m sure its just a GUID conflict – if I had a 64-bit install dvd for vista I could probably find it with enough effort (or if I could be bothered :P )

I tried this on my vista, 64 bit. I really need help, it messed up my OS. I put in code and brackets as it is, and once I hit enter, the icon disapears, and it just keeps giving the message box ‘restarting windows…’ and it restarts, once it restarts, INSTANTLY the same window comes up, and it restarts. In this time, every few seconds windows restarts, and I cannot run any programs, delete it, open start, refresh the page, and cannot even find the icon to delete it. Any help please?
