Make Windows 7 Look Like A Commodore 64

So you’ve just got your brand new PC running a fresh new copy of Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest operating system. Yet you don’t like the clean UI, the aero effects and fancy graphics, it’s all just too much for you. Well maybe you would prefer something a bit more dated, I’m not talking about Windows XP, or even Windows 2000 for that matter, no I’m talking about a Commodore 64.

Back in the day, when computers were really just for big businesses and would occupy a whole floor, you would never dream of owning your own PC. Well eventually they managed to shrink them a bit for the home consumer and one of the most popular models was of course the Commodore 64. It was one of the first PC’s to boot without a floppy disk and came with a generous 64 kilobytes of memory. While programs were loaded on using a tape drive. Well if you want to take a step back in time and make your new Windows 7 machine look like the Commodore 64 here’s how to do so.

Simply download the Commodore 64 Themepack and install it just as you would with any theme.

It contains 3 background wallpapers the recreate the look of the old C-64 screen. It also has desktop icons for your User folder (a miniature C-64 screen); your My Computer link (a C-64 computer), and Recycle Bin (that 1541 floppy drive-the green LED illuminates when the Recycle Bin contains something). The window colors re-create the beige of the C-64′s casing, and the system font should look familiar to any C-64 user. You will also find some of the fonts change to big black bold writing as well.

And there you go, the legendary Commodore 64 running on your Windows machine.

Computers that date to the ancient past is hard to use. The Commodore 64 would be similar to Windows 1.0. Windows 1.0 doesn’t have a GUI. I love Windows 7′s clean UI, the aero effects and fancy graphics. Aero effects and fancy graphics have never had existed in any verisons from Windows 1.0-Windows XP. It was until Windows Vista was introduced. Windows 7 makes it better and cleaner.

The Commodore 64 is also similar to command prompt. The ugly part in the Commodore 64 is that it’s only text. It’s harder to use. You need to know all of the commands in order to use Commodore 64. GUI are better. For GUI, it’s a better experience. You don’t need to type in all of the text.

Windows 8 will bring the world to the next generation of computing.

Sorry but the C64 was not that hard to use..They were keyboard shortcuts (which u probably didn’t know) and it was mainly used for gaming which it did well at the time.It would still do fine with simple 2d board games like chess and card games. The C64 also “booted” instantly although games/programs took a while to load but could be sped-up allot with fast load routines.

As far as I know, every Windows had a GUI or else it wouldn’t be called windows and the aero effects and ”fancy graphics” have been in the Windows API since Win2000 but I guess most shell (explorer.exe substitute) developers didn’t think they were needed so they went unused until MS used it in Vista.
The C64 also had a GUI called GEOS which booted faster than WinXP and in 2003 A GUI called Contiki was made and ported to the 64 which had internet features and simulates an 80-column display.

I have an old C64 which needs a PSU and I think I’m gonna get one and put Contiki on it and also get this theme for Win7.
