Windows Update for Windows 7

Although your system will not stop running once it loses support, Windows Update will no longer provide software updates. As a result, computers that lose support are at risk of not downloading the latest security patches and may become vulnerable to threats. To continue receiving updates, users can either upgrade to Windows 7 (which is fully supported), Windows Vista running SP1 or later, or Windows XP running SP3 (on an x86 system). All service pack upgrades are free to genuine users of Windows, although a system upgrade may cost you. Users who are looking learn more should take a look at Microsoft’s official page. You can also use that page to upgrade your service pack or system.

If you are unsure what version of Windows you are running, Microsoft provides a discovery method here. You can also find out whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit here.

    about time!
If you think about it, XP has been around since 2001! Almost a decade of existence! Gosh, I wish the rest of the XP users may finally upgrade their systems but it will be surely harder on third-world countries

who cares if SP 2 loses support , SP 3 is free available.

I have a laptop with broken screen that I use in the living room for internet video watching from Netflix. I’m happy to use XP and won’t invest any money in an OS for a broken laptop that is worth 0. Even if it still lives after 2014, then I just live without security patches on that one for just watching Netflix. My PC and real laptop have W7, of course.

Maybe when W8 looks interesting I get a copy of that for my PC and use the W7 license for the laptop. But mostly W7 is so good that I will skip W8. So, XP might live on somehow on spare computers.

finally, the worst operating system ever lost its support (Vista RTM). I couldn’t stand it. No matter, in a matter of days, I will be ditching XP and Vista altogether for Windows 7 (I have the licence since its release, but haven’t been able to find a time to install it). I will still keep using XP on a certain netbook. But the rest of it will migrate to Win7 and Ubuntu. Got Win7 Ultimate and 2 Win7 Home Basic (the one with yellow cover).

Yes, Vista is the worst. Even though I’ve used it for over a year and haven’t had any problems, it’s still the worse.

If Vista is the worse, then why have I used it for a year without any problems?
