Get DreamScene In Windows 7

You may remember a feature that was found only in Windows Vista Ultimate- “Dreamscene” what it did was allow you to set a video as your wallpaper. While it probably wasn’t the most economically with power consumption and CPU usage, it was still pretty cool. Microsoft only made it available in the Ultimate Edition of Vista because they wanted us to buy the more expensive edition to gain access to these “Extras” but to be honest, not a lot in the line of extras arrived.

It seems Microsoft decided not to include this feature in Windows 7, probably in an effort to make the OS more stable and less power hungry, but as usual, where there’s a will there’s a way.

DreamScene had many fans and they weren’t too impressed when it got cut from Windows 7, so for all you guys, here’s how you can get it back.

The ever-helpful Kishan Bagaria has provided a tool to help us out. Simply download a program called DreamScene Activator. You will then need to run the .exe file as administrator and it will make some changes to your registry settings.

Then hit “Enable DreamScene” and your away! The explorer will restart and then you will be all set. DreamScene Activator also adds the option for you to right click on a video and set it as your wallpaper. It also adds the controls to your desktop so you can pause and play by accessing the right click context menu.

Remember if you don’t run this with Administrator access it wont work.

To my mind, DreamScene is a stupid thing. Who cares having a video on his desktop ? It’s slowing up your pc, degrading your registry, it may corrupt your explorer.exe, and it’s eating a lot of energy for nothing !
