The Jumplists were introduced in Windows 7 and are a great little feature. For those of you who don’t know about jumplists, John has done up a great article which you can see here. The only problem is, not all programs support the Windows 7 jumplists, in particular some of the older programs.
But now you can add these convenient jump lists to these programs as well thanks to the Jumplist Exteneder tool. It’s a free, open-source application that allows you to add your own customized Jump Lists to any program.
First off you can download the program from here, then run and install the program.
Then you want to browse for and select the program you want to enhance. It will then open up in the Jump List creation screen, where you can add tasks, file or folder locations, category headings, and separators.
The next step is adding to commands that you would like to be made available in your jump lists. Then you can enter in the keystrokes which you would normally use to carry out the function that you want to add to your jump list. Then when you access your jump list, and select one of these options, it will automatically perform that function.
For more advanced users and commands, you can use AutoHotKey and code for those who know how, which means the sky is the limit in regards to the amount of tasks you can add to jumplists. Any syntax you can use in AutoHotKey you can use in Jumplist Extender so just switch to text mode and code away to your hearts content!
And if you’ve got some friends who are handy with coding, you can even import any jumplists they’ve created.
