Ok so after reading the headline for this post you’re possibly expecting to see a massive tablet running Windows 7, and you are, sort of. Ok to be honest it’s actually just a huge 70 inch HDTV which has a PC built into it running Windows 7. It’s nothing new to see these all in one PCs that have all the parts built into the monitor, but German company Hannspree took it a step further and showed off the Lounge TV 70 at this week’s IFA trade show in Berlin.
The reason I playfully use the word “tablet” when describing it is because as well as being a massive TV running Windows 7, it also supports a stylus. At the show the TV was running an application that allowed people to draw images on the massive HD screen. It pretty much turns the whole TV into a big whiteboard. Of course there probably is a couple of reasons why this wouldn’t be a very practical tablet. Firstly it needs to be plugged in all the time, I don’t think there’s any battery pack in tablets that’s strong enough to power a 70 inch HD screen for too long. Secondly being a 70 inch screen I’d imagine it would be quite difficult to carry around and it’s probably far too heavy to hold or sit on your lap.
Ok right it’s not a tablet, I’ll stop trying to pretend that it is now. However I’m sure this would be very appealing to many businesses for making presentations and the like but I’m sure it would cost a fair bit too. We don’t even know any of the internal specs on this device either as the one at the show was only a prototype. We don’t know if it will ever even make it to market or what price it would cost. But it’s a pretty cool concept anyway and I’m sure one day we might see something like it.
