It’s Christmas, that traditional time of high PC sales when people give and receive new computers. To mark the occasion I’ve written a short eBook on how to set up and configure a new PC. In this completely free 25 page printable guide I deal, first and foremost with the age-old problem of the missing Windows 7 installation DVD and what you can do about it. Other subjects covered include creating your own backup and restore disks for Windows 7, how to secure your files, photos, music and video away from Windows 7 to prevent a disaster wiping them out, and how to deal with bloatware and trial versions of anti-virus software.
There are always issues surrounding new computers, not the least of which is the missing installation DVD. Others include the sheer amount of useless software that’s commonly pre-installed on them. This software is commonly set to run at start-up and can slow down your computer. Another issue is that the anti-virus software instaled on new PCs is commonly a time-limited trial that expires, and stops protecting your computer, after a few months.
As with all things technical if you’re a complete novice I do suggest that you follow the instructions very carefully and have a technically-minded friend with you if possible. This is because creating a new disk partition in Windows for your files is simple yet not without its risks.
