Microsoft had a presence at the Consumers Electronic Show with Steve Ballmer giving a pre-show talk about upcoming devices and technologies. For the consumer, there were new showings of upcoming devices that focus on the Windows 7 platform and the Windows Phone 7.
Acer Aspire S5
Coming in at only 15mm at its maximal point, the Acer Aspire S5 is one of the world’s thinnest notebooks. It weighs less than 1.35 kg and is built with a 13.3-inch HD LED LCD. It comes with Windows 7 and the Acer Green Instant On technology is great for fast boot and resume, and Acer Always Connect technology is great for accessing and managing multimedia and data anytime, anywhere.
Next Generation Samsung Series 9
This device coming in at just a half-inch thin and weighing less than 2.5 pounds may let you think it was not very powerful. But guess again. The next generation Series 9 may is clad in an aluminum unibody design with the Series 9 hallmark polished edges.
ASUS UX Zenbook UX21
The UX Zenbook with a flushed trackpad and metal keys, manages to push durability, power and class into a small package. It comes installed with Windows 7 and a powerful Intel i5/i7 processor with the Super Hybrid Engine II with instant-on two-second resume inside a spun metal and hairline aluminum. It has a lightweight chassis that is only 3 millimeters in the front and 9 millimeters in the rear. The razor-thin edges, curved center section and new rose gold color provides a display of beauty and strength to an otherwise bland looking technology. This is different.
Sony Z Series
The new VAIO Z Series, with Windows 7, introduces the next step in ultraportable laptops by featuring second-generation Intel Core processors (up to 2.70 GHz) and a fully powered dock with AMD graphics. It also delivers up to 16 hours of combined battery life.
HP ENVY 14
The HP ENVY 14 Spectre is a powerful consumer thin and light PC that attracts attention with its extraordinary glass design. The HP ENVY 14 Spectre fits a 14-inch screen inside a 13.3-inch body.
Lenovo A720
The world’s slimmest 27-inch all-in-one, the IdeaCentre A720, with Windows 7, combines a frameless display supporting 10-point multitouch with a widely adjustable screen angle (from -5 degrees to 90 degrees) that allows comfortable use in any position.
HTC TITAN II (AT&T)
HTC TITAN II is the company’s first Windows phone to run on a 4G LTE network. It will be available to customers of AT&T in the U.S. It includes the largest display among Windows phones, with a 16-megapixel digital camera, and access to AT&T’s 4G LTE speeds.
Nokia Lumia 900 (AT&T)
The Nokia Lumia 900, the first of Nokia’s Windows phones to feature high-speed 4G LTE connectivity, will be coming to AT&T in the spring in cyan and matte black. The display is Nokia’s largest at 4.3 inches.
Sharp 80″ AQUOS Board
The 80-inch LED-LCD interactive display running Windows 7 provides great color images. This display can easily replace a traditional whiteboard and/or projection system. It also has touch-screen convenience to allow for versatility and performance in business meetings, teleconferences, whiteboard presentations, training/classroom instruction, and high-impact signage.
VIZIO New Prototype
VIZIO enters the PC market with a line of computers engineered around entertainment. These devices will deliver on performance to give consumers exactly what they want from their home computer.
Toshiba Z830
Toshiba’s ultralight new Portégé Z830 is a Windows 7-based PC clad in brushed magnesium-alloy and weighing less than 2.5 pounds. It has a battery life that lasts up to eight hours, with a spill-resistant LED backlit keyboard and Toshiba Hi-Speed Start Technology. This it saves time by offering a quicker boot-up from off state in a slim 0.63-inch form factor .
One final note. This will be Microsoft’s last appearance at the CES convention. Steve Ballmer made his presentation and then discussed the devices that were in the show.
