Fair call they want to change and keep up with the times, im ok with this But you cant expect all of us to just Learn how to develop and use a stupid desktop user interface on a non touch user’s computer.

Now if they Said this is our new METRO UI for Phones and Touchscreen Deveics hey i would HAIL it it looks good and im a MS fan but when they tell me they are removing the hole desktop to an Optional user interface im like WTF I use 4 30″ screen for my work and this Metro just aint coing to cut it for me.

Sorry but it’s not going to work unless it’s for touch devices and the likes. not a desktop.

Although i do like the
Faster Boot times, Memory Managment. I use windows 8 everynow and then at home and it works well but the first thing i did was Registry Hack to remove the Damn Metro UI so i can access my Desktop properly.

However more importantly this ‘media center slap on’ is a whole new user intreface that we compleetly change how you experience your computer. This is worth the price for many more so than if it  had new features under the hood.

Nobody is forcing you to buy this btw. Microsoft (like all companies) just keeps on innovating. Or would you rather buy an operating system from 2009 when you’re ready for a new computer? Microsoft should be able to be competitive with competition released today, and they have to do this with modern software not stuff from a few years ago. As long as Microsoft also keeps on supporting the older software than there is nothing wrong with releasing a newer version.

You don’t always need to have the latest version. For example, you can go from XP to Windows 7 and skip Vista or go from Windows Vista to Windows 8 and skip W7.

If there are as many improvements from the Beta to the RTM, then i think that i could end loving this O.S even more than Windows 7. I just wish that Microsoft produced a dedicated Windows 8 Desktop edition for laptops and desktop with big screen, with an optimized U.I for such devices. For exemple the Start Screen could open as a Window and Metro apps should be usable as big widget over the desktop instead of full screen apps. The fact tablets are not really replacing the laptops/desktops should encourage Microsoft to rethink a bit is too great focus on the Tablet form factor for Windows U.I. The current U.I is perfect for Tablet and convertibles. However Microsoft must provide a different U.I with a focus on big screen for laptops and desktop.

Design will work really well in Tablets i would assume.

I doubt the consumer market they seek will want to pay £80 to upgrade to it.

I’m not spending big cash for what is essentially Windows 7 with Media Center slapped on the top.
