Microsoft New Arc Touch Mouse

Microsoft has released a new mouse called Arc Touch Mouse. It is different from other mouse designs anywhere as the image below shows.

Arc Touch Mouse

Use it just about anywhere, even on a rough wood surface or carpet. The technology behind this is BlueTrack Technology 1. It also allows you to keep wireless control of your computer up to 30 feet away. Pop it up to turn it on, flatten it to turn it off.

How it Works

Arc Touch Mouse’s design allows for quick use and storage. To get it started curve it. Then glide your finger up or down the scroll pad. You get a response precisely to the speed of your finger movement, using a Haptic feedback, i.e. a light vibration that signals scrolling speed. So you scan through documents or web pages as quickly, or as slowly as needed, entirely by feel.

When you’re done, you keep the transceiver plugged into your computer’s USB port, or tuck it into the underside of the mouse. Then flatten Arc Touch Mouse to turn it off, and slip it into your pocket or bag just like a cell phone.

Arc Touch Models

There are three models of the Arc Touch Mouse. The artist edition – Year of the Dragon, Limited edition, and the standard model. Each costs 59.95.

Other Touch Models

Microsoft has developed other mouse touch models.

  • The Touch Mouse is the highest valued mouse model. It features a large touch-sensitive surface that responds to one-, two- and three-fingered movements that are optimized for window management.
  • Explorer Touch Mouse. It has a four-way Touch scrolling technology for fast navigation. It has five customizable buttons and three scroll speeds that use haptic feedback. It also has a battery life of up to 18 months. It has a low position so it speeds up everyday tasks with a touch strip optimized for quick vertical and horizontal scrolling.

This may still be new in geological time, but it certainly isn’t a new product.  It has been on the market for more than a year….

Great advertisement, it’s been out for a long time now.
Heck, people like Track Balls but that doesn’t make them any more useful outside of playing missile command.

I use a 5 button mouse from Logitech that allows me to play all my 1PS and all this over priced arc doohickey is for general web browsing and staring applications so if your into gaming just go with the real world devices instead of this useless artsy crap.

Guess why there isn’t a new type of shoelace?  Because it evolved to it’s intended purpose.
The PSX joypad hasn’t changed much externally in the past 10 years for a reason and all other systems go off that basic design because it’s a proven product.

Better it internally but stop changing the shape because it works with people’s hands just fine.

I have the Arc Touch Mouse at home and have to say that while it may be usable for “light” computer users, it is nothing that I can work with. Its size is to small for my taste for instance, and it lacks additional buttons that I work with on my desktop PC.
