Microsoft’s Bing Vision service for Windows Phone 7

Microsoft’s Bing Vision service for Windows Phone will be upgraded to support newspapers in March.  Bing Vision, which is built into the Bing app on Windows Phone, supports QR codes, Microsoft tags, barcodes, CDs, DVDs, and books using a phones camera to scan for information. But Microsoft plans to update Bing Vision in March in order to provide access to digital versions of print magazines or articles. This will allow users to have access to over 3,000 publications globally.

Another feature involves the ability to let users find out if a product is available locally and also to compare the prices of goods they intend to purchase. You don’t even have to be locked into a location; it will work even while you are on the move.

Bing Image Matching

Another product that Microsoft is making available is Bing Image Matching for Newspapers. So suppose you are looking for an article. You find it on a newspaper or magazine. But you want to read it on the Web. So you take a picture of the article with the Windows Phone 7, and Image Matching goes out an finds the article for you. So, you will have access the article, even if it is not locally available.

The Bing Vision

Although Microsoft has been criticized for not keeping up with Google search engine. Microsoft has decided that Bing has it’s own territory to explore. Microsoft is making an effort to provide a viable alternative to search operations. With a different view of how users expect to use a search engine. For Microsoft it views Bing as a decision engine. “Bing is for doing,” that at least is the way that Microsoft plans to embody the query operations. This goes perfectly with the latest updates that it is proposing to access data. With the Bing Vision and the Bing Image Matching it plays right into what Microsoft lets Bing stand out.
