Samsung Reveals First Windows Phone 8 Device: ATIV S

Samsung has become the first Windows Phone manufacturer to reveal a Windows Phone 8 device, beating Nokia to the punch just days before their own joint press event with Microsoft.

The Windows Phone Blog revealed pictures and specs for the new device just ahead of Samsung’s own announcement on Thursday. The device, which appears to be modeled after the popular Samsung Galaxy S III, will feature the following specs:

  • 8.7mm brushed aluminum chassis
  • 4.8” HD Super AMOLED display made from Corning Gorilla Glass 2
  • 1.5Ghz dual-core processor
  • 1GB of onboard RAM
  • 8MP autofocus rear camera
  • 1.9MP front-facing camera
  • 16GB or 32GB storage models
  • MicroSD slot for expanded storage
  • 2300mAh battery
  • NFC (Near Field Communications)

No word on pricing or availability just yet, but the author of the post, Ben Rudolph, suggests that we will be seeing more Windows Phone 8 devices to come during IFA 2012. Here’s a look at the photos put up in the blog post:
